Horror Display Prompt
I was inspired by this display that I found via Pinterest. This would tie in wonderfully with integrated advisory by starting with a popular TV show, Stranger Things, and displaying horror books and movies with similar themes and monsters. Stranger Things focuses on the creepy, gross eldritch horrors which can be found in many horror fiction titles as well. Those readers who love the show might also love to read these books! I would also time this display not around October and Halloween, but around the release of Stranger Things Season 5 when everyone is hyped up on the new season.
What a fun idea! I love this for many reasons, but I think it's especially cool to create this display based around the release of the newest Stranger Things season as opposed to some time during the Halloween/spooky season. With horror displays, it's so easy to just relegate them to one single time of year, but the reality is that people are probably reading horror year round, especially people who love the genre already. With something like this, you can promote the genre in an unexpected way and at an unexpected time, which will be eye-catching for that alone! Not all horror franchises/media properties would lend themselves well to a display like this, but Stranger Things is so sweeping, terrifying, and unique that I doubt you'd have any trouble at all finding titles that can relate to some element of the show.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea - not only could you promote horror but you could promote all the different stranger things tie in books. Minor deduction for brevity of this idea and that your font is black on black background - I had to highlight the text to see it. Great idea though!
ReplyDeleteOh no! This is what I get for using a dark mode plug-in on my browser lol! It looks totally fine on my end, so noted to check that in future :)
